Special Classes: Lecture series on the Gift of Consciousness, Part 2 – December 2019

In this lecture series we will continue the study of the Classical  Yoga, its philosophy and psychology as taught by the Sage Patanjali through the Yoga Sutras and the commentaries of Vyasa to examine the mechanisms of mind and consciousness that make yoga practices effective for self-study, self-regulation, positive interaction, and transcendental experience.

Friday lecture: Yogic psychology and world view  presented in Classical Yoga by Juha and Petri

In this class we will study the ideas presented in the Classical Yoga on the psychology of the human mind and life experiences, and how this is reflected on the view of the external world:
1) We will have an overview of the Classical Yoga to understand better one’s own mind, and how to work on the transformation of consciousness.
2) In the West consciousness is associated with the brain and the head, but could intelligence actually exist as an potential within every cell and every part of our body? In this class we will also study, how the concept of citta, or the mind field is related to this question.

Saturday lecture: Abhyasa, foundations of a stable practice

(Includes Pranayama, Chanting and Meditation)
What is abhyasa? This question leads to the very essence of yoga practice. In this class we will study, what are the qualities, that must be present for our practice to bear fruit towards self development and transformation. This is especially important, when we are experiencing moments of hopelessness and melancholy in our lives, through our mind and emotions. How the practice of classical yoga could be helpful to establish the inner balance?  In this class we will explore some methods and principles by which we can build up a yoga practice towards balance and stillness.

Sunday lecture: Vairagya, the gatekeeper of Spirituality

(Includes Pranayama, Chanting and Meditation)
What is vairagya? This question leads to another essential aspect of yoga, which is an important patner of abhyasa. In this class  we will study the concept of vairagya, non-attchment. Detachment, or constantly letting go, is according to Patanjali a necessary part of the inner journey towards spiritual ascension: What is vairagya, or non-attachement in practice? How to examine it, and even in our daily life. And why it is essential to safely progress on the path of Yoga.
