ONLINE Astanga Workshop May 1-3, 2020

Petri Räisänen and Juha Javanainen are teaching live ONLINE in Helsinki 2020:

Petri and Juha have practiced Astanga Yoga since 1988 and founded the Astanga Yoga School of Hel

sinki in 1997. Petri has written two extensive and detailed books about Astanga Yoga practice in the Tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and Juha has translated the Yoga Mala of Sri K. Pattabhi Joisin into Finnish.

In this intensive workshop Petri and Juha will guide the yoga practitioners in led Primary classes on Friday and the morning mysore practice from on Saturday. Juha will also teach online mysore on Sunday morning.

Petri and Juha will also give special classes on Astanga Yoga and the view of awakening consciousness through the practices of Yoga.

Special Classes: Lecture series on the Gift of Consciousness, Part 4 – May 1-2, 2020

In this lecture series we will study the Indian yoga philosophy and psychology taught by the Sage Patanjali through the Yoga Sutras and the commentaries by Vyasa to examine the mechanisms of mind and consciousness that make yoga practices effective for self-study, self-regulation, positive interaction, and transcendental experience.

Friday class: Q&A on the practices of Asana and Pranayama, Guided Pranayama & Meditation / Petri

(Includes Chanting and Philosophy)
In this class we will have questions on Yoga to clarify and to develop our practices. Questions& Answers session is followed by guided Pranayama and Meditation.

Saturday lecture: Mental disturbances, Kleshas, and their role in Yoga / Juha

(Includes Pranayama, Chanting and Philosophy)
In this class we will study, what are is the role of Kleshas, or mental afflictions/disturbances in Yoga. This requires us to start examining our life and desires, and to realize how we are bound to repeat certain behaviours and patterns, which may not really serve our inner development. The very beginning of the second chapter of Yoga Sutras will guide us.
We will start the class by chanting the first 15 sutras of the Second Chapter in vedic chanting style in a simple and accessible way as taught by T. Krishnamacharya. The class includes also guided Pranayama.
